A volunteer role with commission — and a real path to creating your own paid position within the Alliance.
Done well, this role becomes the case for its own salary. You'll be building something real: a track record of booked school programs, strong relationships with arts departments, and a growing body of proof that this mission belongs in classrooms and auditoriums alike.
What You'll Be Doing
We have programming ready to bring into schools, starting with Being Jonas Wilder and Spark Creativity. Both are built to resonate with arts departments, theater programs, and music programs, and both scale from a single classroom to a full school assembly.
We're building a database of target schools, starting with arts-focused public and private programs, performing arts high schools, and districts with active theater or music departments. As that database grows, you'll have call scripts, outreach guidance, and simple paperwork and agreements ready to go, so you can focus on the conversations, not the process.
You'll get a CRM seat and the ability to call directly from the CRM or your mobile device. You'll log every call and its outcome in the CRM, so we can track progress and success together as we go.
Who We're Looking For
Someone who can honestly say they're in alignment with the Alliance's mission: creating content and experiences that inspire people to rediscover their connection to each other, to themselves, and to life.
That probably makes you an idealist. In today's media environment, some people would call that "woke" — and here, we mean that as a compliment.
You don't need to already be an expert with technology. You just need to be the kind of person who's confident finding your way through modern communication and collaboration tools, because you can see the common patterns across most of them.
Experience as an educator, former educator, or administrator is a strong preference for this role, not just a plus. Schools are more layered institutions than most venues. Knowing how to navigate a principal's office, a district curriculum office, or a school board takes real, lived experience, and someone who's already spent time inside education will move faster and open doors that stay closed to an outsider. If that's you, especially if you're retired or transitioning out of the classroom and looking for a meaningful way to stay connected to schools, this role was built with you in mind.
You are:
- A self-starter
- Likely someone with a high "I" on the DISC profile. Don't know yours? The link will tell you for free.
- Not likely an introvert — though if you are, you've built real confidence and comfort in social interaction, especially when you have a framework or script to work from
- Organized
- Collaborative, or genuinely drawn to becoming more collaborative, even without much experience yet
- Able to follow direction
- Comfortable suggesting a change in that direction when you see one, and able to make the case for why it's a good idea
Whether you need this role to generate real income or you're in a season of life where contributing to the mission matters more than the paycheck, you belong here. What matters most is that you're good at it, and that you genuinely enjoy the process. Plenty of people are skilled at outreach and booking without loving it. This mission needs someone who does. The better you are, and the more you enjoy it, the faster this becomes real income and real impact.
Where This Leads
This role isn't a fixed job description. It's an open one, and you're the person shaping it.
As you work, you'll be confirming what works, revising what doesn't, and optimizing the process as you go. You're not just filling a role. You're building it.
Success here isn't measured by activity. It's measured by a track record: school programs booked and completed, and the revenue those programs generate, not just for the Alliance, but for the school on the revenue-share side and for you, as the ambassador and booker.
Once we have a real track record to look at, we'll be able to see the actual margin this role creates. From there, calculating a salary and benefits for a permanent position within the Alliance becomes straightforward, because the numbers will make the case on their own.
This role sits on the front line of our impact in schools. When it succeeds, that success is easy to point to, and easy to build on.
Tools You'll Use
- Google Workspace
- HubSpot CRM
We also use large language model tools (what's commonly called AI) in one very specific way: we never ask them to do our work for us. We do the work first, then ask the tools to organize and polish it, without adding or subtracting any information.
This distinction matters because our mission requires lived experience, and no language model has that. What these tools do have is expertise in organization, grammar, structure, and voice. We treat them like a skilled editor, not a source of information or ideas.
Our current AI tools:
- Notebook LM (built into Workspace)
- Gemini (built into Workspace)
- Claude, from Anthropic
- Canva AI, mostly for blog post imagery
How Compensation Works
We're starting with $20 for every scheduled program that doesn't cancel. Ideally, programs are booked at least four weeks out.
Completed programs that also generate merchandise sales, and that revenue funds a further commission for you: up to $150 per completed program, based on sales.
How Revenue Works With Schools
Schools don't work like venues, so we don't approach them the same way.
Most bookings come through a department, committee, or PTA budget that funds the event directly. Some opportunities are community events sponsored by the school, where ticket or merchandise sales make sense the way they would at any public venue. Others are student assemblies, where the show reaches the whole student body and the funding comes from the school rather than from sales at the door.
Part of your role is learning to read which kind of opportunity you're in front of, and helping the school find the funding model that fits. We'll give you the guidance to navigate that as it comes up.
What We Bring to the Table
Right now, for schools, we bring:
- Being Jonas Wilder, a music-theater program about authentic identity that speaks directly to what theater and music students are already exploring
- Spark Creativity, built for classroom and department use, and isn't excellent follow-up immediately after Being Jonas Wilder when the audience is on the artistic path.
- Two books: The Echo and the Voice, by J.W. Kindbloom (Mark Firehammer's pen name), and The Lens That Changes Everything, nonfiction by Mark Firehammer
- The album Songs in the Key of Return by Jonas Wilder, all songs composed by Mark Firehammer over 40 years
Here's something worth knowing: this show isn't limited to one performer. The entire framework, script, music charts, and lyrics are written out and ready for anyone, young or old, ambitious enough to learn the role and step into Being Jonas Wilder themselves. That includes students. A school that wants to develop its own student performer isn't a complication. It's exactly the kind of outcome this mission is built for.
Beyond the Show: The Pantry
Being Jonas Wilder doesn't have to be a one-time booking. The Alliance also maintains a library we call the Pantry, a growing collection of creative content designed to be learned, presented, and performed by anyone who wants to bring it to their own audience. We call the people who do this Champs.
For students on an arts or performance path, the Pantry is a real tool for their toolbelt. It gives them material to learn, perform, and build experience with, beyond whatever their current curriculum covers. A student who steps into a Pantry piece, or even into the role of Jonas Wilder itself, walks away with something a single assembly can't give them: practice, ownership, and a credit they earned themselves.
That's part of what makes this pitch stronger than a typical booking. You're not just offering a school one show. You're offering an ongoing resource their arts department can keep coming back to.
One of the best ways to learn how to build purpose-driven creative content is to learn founder Mark Firehammer's own method, developed over a lifetime:
- The Champ Creation Framework
- The Spark Creativity Event
- The Four R's, a process for relating to anything in an imaginative, nonthreatening way that doesn't require anyone to change their existing beliefs
It's simply another tool in the belt.
