Mark Firehammer

An Author Reading

What if the thing you've been trying to fix was never broken? An hour with a book, a few passages, and a new place to stand while you look at your own life.

Many of us carry a quiet suspicion: maybe the problem is me.

The Lens That Changes Everything begins with a different answer. “It’s not us.” It was the lens we were given, the one we learned to look through long before we had the chance to question it.

Mark Firehammer reads passages chosen to stand on their own, including the moment the book answers that suspicion, the self-help loop, the story we absorb without noticing, and the starving artist.

If the room is willing, two volunteers step into the roles of Holmes and Watson and read a short investigation of a familiar cultural mystery, like exhaustion or the loneliness epidemic. It’s a playful way to see a pattern without making it personal.

Time stays open at the end for questions and conversation.

What Your Space Needs

A chair, a few feet of floor, and people curious about how they see.

There's no sound system, no screen, and nothing to set up.

Where This Happens

This reading fits rooms where ideas already get talked over:

  • Independent bookstores
  • Libraries
  • Coffeehouses and cafés
  • Wellness and creativity spaces
  • Small community venues

Many hosts pair it with The Echo and the Voice reading or a full Being Jonas Wilder performance, so one visit can offer a few different doorways into the same work.

Who This Is For

This is for anyone who:

  • Has tried the books, the routines, and the methods, and still senses something important is just out of view
  • Has quietly wondered whether the problem is them
  • Cares about someone the cultural story never quite fit, and wants to understand
  • Enjoys a good conversation about how we got here
  • Likes asking an author what’s behind the pages
